Pigmentation Correction

    Treating Pigmentation with the MeDioStar®

Pigmentation concerns from aging, sun exposure and lack of proper SPF protection are characterized by brown spots and sunspots and stem from an excess of melanin in the skin. Some pigmented lesions are present from birth, while others develop gradually. Common types of pigmentation include birthmarks, freckles, age spots, café-au-lait spots and more.

While many sunspots are benign, some could be melanomas or cancerous. That’s why we ask our clients to have all pigmented lesions medically examined before considering laser treatment.

    How Pigmented Lesion Removal Works

We use the Asclepion MeDioStar®, backed by Astanza, to treat pigmentation concerns. Our laser equipment emits pulses of light energy that precisely target the melanin within the unwanted pigmented lesion. The excess melanin absorbs the energy from the laser, heats up, and breaks down into minuscule pigment particles while leaving the surrounding skin cells unharmed. Following treatment, your immune system kicks into gear and naturally flushes out the newly fragmented pigment particles.

Treatment sessions are swift and vary depending on the size and quantity of lesions treated in a single session. The sensation during the laser procedure is often compared to a slight prick or the snapping of a rubber band against the skin.

Pigmented lesion removal is suitable for all body areas, with the most common treatment sites being the face, neck, legs and hands. Typically, clients witness significant fading and complete removal within just one to two treatment sessions. Post-treatment, a small scab may develop at the location of the pigmented lesion. It is essential not to disturb or pick at the scab, as doing so may lead to infections and undesired side effects. For optimal results, allow the scab to heal naturally and flake off on its own.

We highly recommend that all clients apply daily sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher following the procedure. This not only helps maintain the results but also prevents the development of additional sunspots. Additionally, eating pineapple and/or drinking pineapple juice is recommended as the enzyme helps with inflammation and pain. Using Arnica topical cream can also help with diminishing any bruising you may experience. Our team offers the highest quality sunscreen in our lobby for your convenience.
